At the start of June this year, we kicked off the second edition of our wellness Challenge, Live Well '24, marking a perfect start to the summer.
When I joined the team a few weeks shy of a whole year ago, I was immediately drawn to the concept of the challenge. Live Well is a wellness initiative designed to encourage everyone to pause, take a breath, and prioritize self-care. It's tailored specifically to help women look and feel their best.
For many, summer, whether or not it’s a culture or a season for your part of the world, signifies a time to recharge and focus on well-being amidst the hustle and bustle of life. Our goal with Live Well is simple: to support women in nurturing their health and wellness.
In 2022, we introduced a 13-day wellness challenge. This year, we condensed it to a focused seven days, ensuring every day counts towards enhancing well-being.
Throughout the month, we asked participants to pick seven consecutive days to participate in this challenge. For example, Sunday the 16th of June to Saturday the 22nd.
Each day, they picked one of the twenty-one activities we provided and shared their progress with the community via their stories and reels, using the hashtag #LiveWellWith21.
We were pleased to see many women hop on the challenge, from journaling to taking us on walks, making smoothies, and much more. We even had some people do 14-22 days! It was an incredible community challenge. In the end, two dedicated women won our giveaways.

I’ve always been a wellness girlie, so once I saw that 21 Mag was doing a Live Well Challenge, it was a no-brainer for me to hop on it. The activities in the challenge were already things that I practised (or at least am trying to do more of ), so I thoroughly enjoyed them.
From going on walks to getting my nails done and even catching up with an old friend, it felt great to be intentional. And the best part of it? I WON.
Funny story: I didn’t know there was a reward when I started, but when I saw that there was a chance to win something, it instantly gave me ginger to continue.
The message (that I won, hehe) from 21 Mag came in at a time when I wasn’t having a great week, and if there’s one thing that can boost my mood, it’s a self-care day. I was super excited when they told me I had won a mani-pedi session at Oriki, and I could go in that weekend to redeem it.
Trust me, I was there! They also made the process seamless for me so when I walked in, all I had to do was give my name and that was it.
The Experience
Oriki is such a soothing place, and as this was my first time going there, I was very impressed. The pedicurist and manicurist took their time with both procedures, and I felt really pampered. I was also served green tea and crackers, which made me love the place more.
All in all, I had a great time, and my nails ATE! Thank you, 21 Mag. You guys rock!
PS: When is the next challenge abeg?
PPS: So the craziest thing is that I forgot to take a picture of the nails after because I had an event 😭😭😭
Imeroma
When I first saw the post, I was thrilled and immediately shared it with my friend, who also ended up winning the challenge alongside me. We talked about how this was perfect for us. Some activities we hadn't done in a while because of life’s demands, but I saw this as an opportunity to revisit the things I love. The Live Well Challenge inspired me to re-engage with my passions and enjoy them while competing for a prize. It was a win-win situation.
My favourite part was reconnecting with an old friend I hadn’t spoken to in a while. The challenge motivated me to reach out and rebuild that bond. I’m grateful to 21 Magazine for that push because it has been too long since we last talked.
I was also very excited to see the post on your story about winners. When I saw my name there, I was like “yaaay my name is there”. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t noticed the DM about it earlier. Sharing the news with my friend felt incredible – “We made it, mama!”
Thank you, 21 Magazine, for this experience and for encouraging us to Live Well💗.
Additionally, members of the 21 Team participated! Below are the seven challenges the team took part in!
My experience with Live Well can only be described as calming and affirming. I’m not the biggest fan of the typical ‘exercise’ and ‘workout’ routines. Over the years, I’ve consistently tried and failed to exercise like everyone else.
I had to learn that exercise can look like a million different things. I remembered my days as a ballet dancer and actively searched for Dance Workouts to emulate on YouTube. I fell in love with Yoga, and you would have to use a chain to pull me out of a Swimming pool. Lastly, there’s no better workout than Sex. All these things have kept my mind and body healthy and relatively at peace.
In many ways, the Live Well Challenge embodies slow and/or mindful wellness. It allowed me to take my time with it and fully feel and be involved in every activity I participated in. And as Imeroma said, it was a reminder to do the things I had been putting off.
Even though it had nothing to do with queerness, Live Well honestly felt like the right start to Pride Month.
